HE’S  IN  THE  AIR  WE  BREATHE

By Dennis R, Smith

This last year has been flooded with warnings about the H1N1 virus which has swept across our land.  Many have received inoculations as a protection from being afflicted. It is always good advice to take every precaution where our physical health is concerned.  There is a far worse pandemic  that  has plagued the world from the beginning which seems to be of little concern to some  today. Like many of the physical diseases which afflict our bodies, the disease of sin spreads quickly as if it is contacted out of the air we breathe.  Sin is sin on any level and there is “no new thing under the sun” (Eccl. 1:9), but to some it seems there are  more “exciting new sins”  sweeping  across the world which they have to try out.    Have you ever considered how the “prince of the power of the air” (Eph. 2:2) uses the air to present his temptations to us.  I’m talking about the air waves which bring radio and television  into our living rooms with the most violent acts of lewd and immoral suggestions. Some songs are so open today in their  lyrics bringing sinful thoughts to the minds of many.  Satan, who is “the prince of this world”  (John 12:31) is very “high tech” in his efforts,  floating as it were  on the air we breathe in his attempt to snare our thoughts and actions.  The best preventative here is to “set our affections on things above, not on things on the earth” (Col. 3:2).
