 WATCHING OUR DIET?  SPIRITUALLY?

For us not to have  known that the world  has  been alerted to the need to be more careful and watchful about our eating habits, we would have to be like  Rip Van Winkle.  Both from our health’s sake as well as cosmetically, this has been true.    Diet and exercise has been the battle cry of many.  This is good and commendable -   but only in the physical realm.  I wonder if perhaps many today are spiritually weak because they have ignored the necessity of feeding on the word of God.   Let’s consider what the bible says in this area: “As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby” (1st Peter 2:2).”   Then  as members of the local flock we must allow the elders to “Feed us” (Acts 20:28).   Jesus himself declared: “Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, you have no life in you” (John 6:58).  The early church met on the first day of every week for the purpose of surrounding the “Lord’s Table” to partake of the unleavened bread and fruit of the vine symbolic of the body and blood of Christ (1st Cor. 10:16-21).  If we do not eat physically - we die!  Likewise, if we do not partake of the spiritual food offered by our Lord, we become “weak and sickly” in our spiritual lives (1st. Cor. 11:30).  Oh yes, let us also  not forget to “exercise ourselves unto godliness” (1st Tim. 4:7).  This also is a spiritual necessity.
