BIGGER AND BETTER CHALLENGES?
By Dennis R. Smith
I suppose it is in the annals of the whole world that our ultimate goal is one of improvement. We seek to produce a better product. We strive to develop a new set of records. We work hard on our game to become more successful in whatever it is we seek to accomplish. Again, I suppose one is entitled to some sort of “recognition” in being able to reach a higher level in any given field. However, let us stop for a moment and ask a most important question: Which is better, to reach the highest level of improvement in business, sports, politics, etc., but fail to improve ourselves in the areas of our relationship to God, the church, home and family. Allegorically (and just for sake of better understanding my point) consider these cases: Breeders of race horses, show dogs and livestock, etc., are always attempting to create something better. What about their owners? Do they ever think of trying to improve self? Of course there are all kinds of self-improvement books and courses which are available for a fee. Even here I am not condemning anyone in trying to improve self through these means. On the other hand, God offers us completely free of charge instructions for improvement in the things which really count. Enroll yourself in a daily study of His Word. It will make you a better man or woman. Why not give it a try and start today?
