Entertainment? Entertainment? Entertainment?
“.......and the people sat down to eat and to drink, and rose up to play” (Exod. 32:6, 1st Cor. 10:7). A sad commentary of the times is the type of entertainment desired by its people. Today ours probably is the saddest of all. When one looks at the entertainment world, he sees the very base, vile and the most corrupt is that which not only is chosen, but is the most apt to excel in the minds of today’s populace. Not only has the movie industry gone completely berserk, but also television and radio. For example: Some time ago I was listening to the radio when the announcer had the “thrilling experience” of introducing a brand new song. This song suggested adultery and drunkenness and was, in fact, written by a noted artist. This song has become typical of many others of the same caliber. A minister friend of mine, who himself was a song writer and musician, told me that the kind of music which “sells” must have a rhythm and lyrics which appeal to the sensual desires of today’s sin-sick world. Much of today’s entertainment matches up with the music of today but violates a great portion of God’s word. (Take the time to check out these passages: Exod. 20:14; 1st Cor. 6:18; Rom. 8:6-7) Have we forgotten that God’s Word is still the “Lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path” (Psa. 119:105? Let us not ignore what God desires of us.
