In Hebrews 12 we can find several great lessons that will help us in dealing with our trials and temptations.  In verse 2 we read Let us keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, the originator and finisher of the faith.  Because of the joy set before him, he endures the cross, disregarding the shame and he sat down at the right side of God’s throne (emphasis added).”  The very Son of God faced trials (Matthew 26:36 & 27:56) and temptations (Luke 4:1-13), so why do we at times consider ourselves better than Christ by thinking we shouldn’t have to face any trials and temptations?  We can find comfort in knowing that our Lord went through temptations just as we are today.

Hebrews 4:15 states, “For our high priest is able to understand our weaknesses.  He was tempted in every way that we are, but he did not sin.”  As we keep reading in Hebrews 12:3-4 it says “Think about Jesus’ example.  He held on while wicked people were doing evil things to him.  So do not get tired and stop trying.  You are struggling against sin, but your struggles have not yet caused you to be killed….”  Jesus endured hatred beyond anything we have faced and probably ever will face, wicked people that wanted him dead.  We live in the greatest country in the world, where we are free to serve our God!  It is this freedom that prevents anyone to take our lives because we serve the living God.  No matter how bad our trials may be, we have yet to lose our lives because of them.
